Isn’t it just a thing of beauty? The Tulip chair was designed by Eero Saarinen in 1955 and 1956 for the Knoll company of New York City, and was designed primarily as a chair to match the complementary dining table. It has the smooth lines of modernism and was experimental with materials for its time. It is considered a classic of industrial design.
The chair is often considered “space age” for its futuristic use of curves and artificial materials. The design was popularized by its use on the original Star Trek television series (1966–69).
If you’re looking for replacement cushions for your classic Burke or Saarinen tulip chairs, be prepared. These pricey items retail for $327 apiece! Ouch! Fortunately there is another, more affordable solution – The TULIP TOPPER by Walbea.
Hand-made from premium quality Tuscany velour, they have a plush look and soft feel to compliment your classic Tulip chair, plus they feature high-strength elastic so you’ll get a snug/wrinkle-free fit. Retail price is $29 apiece for the Tulip side chair and $39 for the arm chair version.
